Freedom as Promised: Book Four of the Immigration Series

After escaping three periods of tranny one in Europe and two against their former benefactors- the Friday Family had finally found a place of their own in a new country. Nearly one half-century later the family are once again forced to take sides and war against their own nation; not knowing if their new country would do as victors often did in war and take their land. At the end of this third war and despite the radical Congress of the victor, and thanks to the opposition of the President who replaced the lately assassinated Chief Executive they were able to keep their lands and not be punished. This latest war would go down in history as- "The Civil War" yet in the eyes of the rebellious south it was a war of- "Northern Aggression." Even after "Dred Scott" the south was convinced the system of slavery was doomed. I am sure President Lincoln, believed he would bring about a Constitutional amendment; since the supreme court had spoken on the issue. The only remedy was a Constitutional amendment, but the President knew that prospect would be an uphill battle. We can only ponder; if the south did not espouse- "States Rights" and "Nullification" and didn't secede what would have been the ultimate destination of involuntary servitude, and further the result if Lincoln served two or more terms. We will never know The legacy of the brave men who fought the so-called - "War of Northern aggression" are having their history tarnished and monuments torn down, but don't think for one moment such events can not take place again, as destroying history or trying to hide historical has in the past and will again bring about grievous consequences. Do not forget what George Santayana said- "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it", it is easy to debate history, but many people at their peril have decided history does not repeat. I am of the opinion history does repeat, but in different ways, way that can't be understood in the moment. This book journeys through the trials and tribulations of not only, my relations, but the country; through several wars and the ultimate realization of- "Freedom as Promised "
