Resistance to coercion is the most reliable indicator of behavioral freedom, as it is visible and measurable unlike free will or political liberty. Morality originates in the embodied mechanisms of prosocial action, and not in the ideas of duty or obligation. This book explains why freedom and morality exist only at moments when the natural behavioral norm is violated. Other essays include assessment and critique of existential sadism and of reductionism in general.
