During this emotional breakdown, he realizes these scars have not healed, and it is finally time to do something about that. Bernie's is a story of loss-the loss of innocence, of love, of religion, and of faith in human decency; but more importantly, through all of his loss, Bernie gains much more than he could ever predict.
