Margaret Hazel Maloney Cronin, lovingly known as Margie, Mom, Aunt Margie, and Nanny, was born on February 17, 1928, in the vibrant neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, NYC. She was the third of six children born to John Patrick Maloney and Anna McCafferty Maloney, growing up with three sisters and two brothers. During the Great Depression, the family moved to Brooklyn, NY, where Margie's resilience and creativity began to shine. It was in Brooklyn's close-knit community that she met and married Walter Eugene Cronin, beginning a beautiful journey together.

Margie and Walter had eight children--five born in Brooklyn and three in Lynbrook, Long Island, a town cleverly named as Brooklyn spelled backward. Their household was filled with the delightful chaos of a large, loving family. With so many little ones running around, Margie developed a remarkable way to bring calm to the storm. On rainy days or during particularly noisy moments, she would gather her children and weave enchanting tales to capture their imaginations.

One of her most beloved stories was Freddie the Frog. Using her creativity and even a frog hand puppet, she brought Freddie to life, making the tale an instant favorite among her children. These storytelling sessions became treasured memories, filled with laughter, wonder, and a deep sense of connection. Margie's stories weren't just a means of entertainment--they were a reflection of her love, resourcefulness, and the joy she found in nurturing her family.
