Fred and Ted: The Adventure Begins is a New, Coming of School Age, Classic!

I have now purchased and gifted several copies of the precious, new, children’s book, “Fred and Ted: The Adventure Begins,” by author Shauna Lobre, because it’s that good! And; I wanted to write a review for it now, as schools around the country are starting back, because it’s an especially meaningful gift, covering a relevant topic, if you have or know a little one who is headed off to school, and all that that entails, for the very first time. I am a life-long book lover, and an avid reader, who thinks that every home should have their own library! And; while I appreciate a Kindle or Nook, nothing satisfies like holding, and reading from, a good quality book and this one look and feels as though a lot of time, thought, and effort went into every aspect of bringing it to fruition! The illustrations, by artist Will Bullas who brings Fred and Ted and “their boy” to life in the most nostalgic and yet genuinely relevant way are vibrant, animated and absolutely delightful! Ultimately, a heartwarming story of friendship, the boy goes off to school where he learns that he is never really separated, or very far, from his favorite stuffies, and Fred and Ted learn an important lesson, too! Fred, the boy’s treasured pet frog and Ted, his beloved teddy bear, who, missing their boy, decide to check school out for themselves, ultimately ending up in the lost and found. From the school bus to math class, by the time the adventure ends, all three main characters are exactly where they are supposed to be at the end of the day … together! This instant classic could easily be read several times in the weeks leading up to school starting through the elementary grades, making it a worthy, and worthwhile, investment because there isn’t a school-aged child who won’t relate to and enjoy this sweet tale of friendship and the things that really matter! For the child experiencing, or prone to, school-related anxiety, this story will give them confidence and the understanding that they don’t have to say “good-bye just … see you later!” to the people and things they leave behind on school days. I highly recommend this magical book and hope that Fred and Ted take many more adventures to be shared by Ms. Lobre and Mr. Bullas.
