Fine Biography

Fairly evenhanded biography of an often overly maligned figure. Author gets too deep in the weeds sometimes which can make some sections tedious. Worthwhile reading for someone interested in 20th century European history in general or the Civil War specifically. Warning: It is not a detailed account of the civil war that gets into battles, troop movements, etc.
