A toast to Tosti
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
All singers know this composer, because he has written some of the most beautiful art songs of all times. Plus most of them are in Italian (some in English, French and Neapolitan dialect) and have the same structure as an operatic aria, so one more reason for young singers to learn and perform them publicly. Usually the response of the audience is always enthusiastic, independently from their background, and this happens pretty much because these songs speak directly to the heart of the listeners about love and other universal feelings that everyone can identify with. This book includes only the most famous and performed Tosti songs, but for your information Tosti wrote a countless number of songs and the OPERA OMNIA has been published by Ricordi in several volumes (perhaps out of print by now...) Last but not least: as for some references about style, phrasing, diction and interpretation, listen to the recordings by Gigli, Schipa, Di Stefano, Bjiorling, Carreras and Pavarotti.
Tosti Review-Cedarville University

Wonderful book! Tosti's music is brilliant. My first song of his was "A Vucchella" or "A Little Mouth". Definately worth using in your Italian Repetiore. (Music Student at Cedarville University)
