Frances Bonniebell Grinnell spent her childhood years in the small community of Old Clitherall, Minnesota, founded by the "Cutlerites," a schism of the Mormon church. Her Cutlerite grandparents, Isaac and Jennie Whiting, helped raise her. Although she left Clitherall at age twelve, her heart remained there. Her passion for knowledge and writing and her love of home and family were central to her life. After leaving Clitherall, she experienced many adventures, hardships, and joys as she grew from a young girl, Bonnie, into an independent woman, Frances. Her poetry and writings are woven through the book and help tell the story of her life.
