Great series that lasted nine seasons (28 episodes) and never felt dull.
The story (series) takes place during the Second World War.
Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen) wants to join the war effort, but is needed more for a local police DCS (Detective Chief Superintendent).
Even though he is solving local crimes in a time of war, all the cases rub up against the war in a personal manner. We also get engrossed and feel that we are there.
All wars are different, but there are common threads on a personal level that we can relate to.
Each case is resolved in an episode or two. And Foyle is assisted by his driver “Sam” (Honeysuckle Weeks) for 28 episodes and his assistant, Paul Milner, Sergeant Paul Milner, DI Paul Milner (Anthony Howell) for 21 episodes.
While Paul is more of a lapdog, Sam is spunky and insightful.
The fun thing on the side is “actor watching”; you will see many actors from before and after this series. Look closely and see how many you can identify. You might even see Hamlet (David Tennant).
This is well worth binge-watching and will end too soon.
Another detective wartime movie is “Green for Danger” (1946).
