This text by Leonhard and House is a seminal book in the field of music education. After a 2-chapter Orientation, the authors devote 3 chapters to the historical foundations and philosophical foundations of music education and music learning. Part 3 of the book discusses objectives for music education, methods of teaching music, and the administration, supervision, and evaluation of the music education program. The book hasn't been updated since the 1971 publication, so it lacks perspective on more recent developments, particularly in music learning and music philosophy. However, it is very readable, and still useful to all current and prospective music teachers. Highly recommended.
