Camina Shutterfield is betrothed to her childhood sweetheart, Ramjit Bohorasingh, who breaks their engagement because his parents ordered him to leave for Trinidad and marry a distant relative instead. Forsaken and betrayed, Camina faces an attack from her rival, Caitlin, who also had interest in Ramjit. Camina colluded with Minelle, a maid, to intercept any mail that Ramjit sends back from Trinidad and inform her of his whereabout and activities. Caitlin pays Minelle for the same service and when she fails to deliver, there's tragedy. When she receives a mail from Ramjit stating his decision to cancel the arranged marriage and return home, Camina is faced with a decision, however.
