Doxazosin mesylate is an α1-adrenergic receptor blocker used primarily in the management of hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). By selectively blocking α1 receptors in vascular smooth muscle, it causes vasodilation and lowers peripheral resistance, thereby reducing blood pressure. It has a long elimination half-life of around 22 hours making it a suitable candidate for the formulation of fast dissolving tablets. The main aim of the present research work was to study the effect of banana starch powder in the formulation and optimization of fast dissolving tablets of Doxazosin mesylate. Pre-compression studies were conducted for the compression blends. Hardness, friability, disintegration time and percent drug dissolved were conducted for the experimental compressed tablets. The tablets have passed the quality control tests performed. Percent drug dissolved was selected as the significant evaluation parameter and its data was presented in different graphs. Banana starch powder was found to be a potential super-disintegrate in the present study.
