when the forks talk

What I liked most about Schroeder's short novel is the level of awareness that the heroine learns as she establishes boundaries and a new truth for herself. The post-feminist subject matter is very real here, and the hallucination that occurs 2/3 of the way through the book is possibly the best part of the story. It seems that Schroeder is also using the main character's perspective as a lens observing small-town America, which is as dark as any place on earth. Clearly the video rental guy we meet occasionally throughout the story is a reminder of that. I recommend this book!

Characters, you want to hear more about.

This was a good debut for Jojo.She shows talent and originality.The charaters made this story interesting.They were troubled but likeable.I found myself wondering what could happen after the climax of the story.To me it was the relationships between the characters more than the plot that caught my attention. The dream sequence was hard to follow, but I took it to be a symptom of just how troubled Ella,who has the dream, is.The ending was to me refreshing in the fact that it wasn't a Hollywood ending.The ending is what makes me ask for more.

What a good read

What a captivating short story this was, from start to finish. Ms Schroeder definitely knows how to capture her audience and keep them entertained.
