Five young women disappear in the beautiful surroundings of a Japanese village. Only Yumiko, a local hunter, will be able to track them down.

Asaemon Hikura, master tracker of the Sugawara clan, is called in to investigate the disappearance of five women in a remote village. The locals blame a supernatural creature that, they say, lives in the mountain. But Asaemon understands there is no crueler demon than the one living among humans. Accompanied by Yumiko, a young local hunter who will serve as his guide and confidant, the samurai goes on a desperate search.

Not far by, Nanami, the daughter of a katana smith, hides her romance with the young samurai in charge of administering her village. Their relationship contravenes both the law and the will of her parents. When war breaks, Nanami is forced to choose between loyalty to her family and the person she is bound to. Her decision will unexpectedly decide the fate of the five missing young women.
