During the American Revolution, the North Carolina counties bordering Albemarle Sound and its tributaries were organized into the Edenton Military District. Patriots of the Albemarle region served in the militia and the Continental Line, as seamen and privateers, or in political office during the rebellion. Albemarle-region veterans served from the Hudson River in New York to the Savannah River in Georgia. Forgotten Patriots of the Albemarle is an account of some of the unrecognized patriots who served, based on pension records and other documented sources.
