Forgotten Essentials

As we all may have heard by now, by the standards of Western civilization, Haiti is "the poorest nation in this hemisphere. Add the Duvalier regime to the equation, and the leaderships that followed, one can deduce that Haitians have created their demise.
By 1987, every single Haitian was either hopeful or convinced that change was on the way. Big change it was: the country was destabilized by a political culture that said: "You get out so I can get in."
Nearly two decades later, Haiti is still on the world's radar. In March 2004, under the influence of France backed up by the United States, the United Nations Stabilization Mission (MINUSTAH) entered Haiti to "restore" peace and cohesion. Contrary to the expectations of the international community, violence worsened following the ouster of President Jean Bertrand Aristide on February 29 of that year.
Living under harsh conditions, many Haitians had hoped for quick political relief. As many have said, it is as if the country has been cursed. Barely two years later, the "land of freedom" plunged into the deepest anarchy imaginable. It was a complete confusion and an unprecedented chaotic deterioration of all aspects of Haitian society. ....
And time will telle whether we move forward.
