Forever Cry is the story of Tenny Thacker, a feisty red haired girl, as she and her family struggle to rebuild their lives during the Reconstruction Period following the Civil War. The family endures the loss of their baby, and Tenny blames herself. They carry on for the sake of family. The Thackers make the move from Tennessee to Arkansas, and encounter many hardships and complicated relationships along the way, as well as after reaching their destination. Their children bring much joy, as well as shame, during a time of violent upheaval in Arkansas.Forever Cry is a historical fiction book, inspired by the author's grandmother, Martha Jane Tennessee Tucker. This book contains many actual accounts of the events which occurred during this turbulent time in the history of the South, for Whites and Blacks, alike.Half of the white men of the South have been killed or wounded, and most of the remainder attempt to return to a lifestyle that no longer exists. Four million newly freed Blacks are searching for a way to stay alive, while maintaining their dignity, having just been released to the sky, to the storm, to the whirlwind. And, worst of all, to the wrath of their former masters.
