it's an honor and great privilage to serve under the headship of pastor bryant. his book is the true guide for my generation. he wrote the words just as he teaches, and if you've never had the opportunity to hear him speak than you are doing yourself a great injustice. i recommend that everyone gets this book for a friend as well as yourself. be encouraged.
Preach Black Man...

Preach Black Man is an expression Pastor Bryant uses while in Sermon...but throughtout this book, I found myself saying it anyway! Pastor Jamal really brought this one home. It was informative and definitely a guide to live by. Yes, short read, but great things come in small packages. It was short and to the point. God Bless Pastor Bryant, it was well worth the read!
One of the best reads this year!!!!!

I know that this is the beginning of the year, so why not start it off right- healed and whole. This is one of the most dynamic and empowering books I have read. After reading this book, there is a sense of wholeness and understanding in terms of loving yourself in relationships enough to both create and reset boundaries. Though the book deals with sex and relationships on an intimate level, I found that I could apply the principles to other areas of my life to gain both closure, healing, and further understanding. Nothing but praises should be given to Jamal Bryant for tackling the sexual elephant in the Christian room so that everyone in the church can breathe better.
Short Read, But POWER-PACKED!

I picked up this book after hearing Rev. Bryant preach at Nehemiah in Durham, NC. I read it in less than 24 hours. While it is compact, it is FULL OF POWER! It deals with a lot of the ills and sexual taboos in the church. He does it in such a non-confrontive and loving manner that you don't even realize that the spirit of God, through Rev. Bryant's writing, is convicting and changing you. I was so pleased that he touched on the subjects of incest, rape, abuse and its affect on people. He dealt equally with men and women, but were respectful of both. The most poignant point, was when Rev. Bryant said that a lot of times people with a great anointing also have a great sex drive. It is up to us to channel that energy in the right and righteous direction. I was standing in line on the first day of class devouring His (God's) and his (Rev. Bryant's) words. Although I am an avid reader, this reading was different. The words were making crooked places straight and stony places flesh. By the time I finished the book, God had changed me. I am eternally grateful for such a powerful book.
Don't Let This One Pass You By!

While reading a magazine recently I came across an excerpt of this book in connection with the scandal surrounding a certain R & B artist. Enough has already been said about that. I immediately ordered a copy of this book and I must say that I was very impressed. This book is honest, raw and deals with a myriad of subjects that the church either refuses to deal with or politely ignores. I, for one appreciated how open and upfront he was in his confrontation of the issues that plague the church today. It is a must read for anyone involved in ministry of any kind. This is a gentleman that will provoke spirited dialogue given the right atmosphere and people who are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Spiritually we are as close to scraping the bottom as I've ever witnessed. He addresses all of this and then some. I encourage Pastors, lay counselors, those committed to working with youth to read this book and pass it on. If we're not committed to finding a solution then in my opinion we're only aiding the problem. If we don't invest in our youth, there are millions of things for them to find themselves involved with and the majority of those options are not positive. Give this author and book a chance. Even while reading this book at work, co-workers wanted to know what the title meant and why I would be reading about that topic. There's an old saying, "don't judge a book by its cover." This is just an example of that.
