Photographic processes have been used since the emergence of the Forensic Sciences, but analog or digital photography has, exceptionally, been questioned. Although questionable in certain cases, photography, when used under scientific criteria, is an advantageous documentary resource, making it possible to immediately recognize individuals and diverse subjects at a better cost-benefit ratio. In Brazil, the development of Forensic Photography requires a variety of initiatives. In a better scenario, an increase in specific scientific publications, investment and updating of the photographic infrastructure and equipment, as well as a proposal to revise the laws surrounding photography in aid of justice are extremely timely initiatives, as the field currently requires extensive practical and specific knowledge in order to meet the authorities and the new demands of Forensic Science.
