Fresh from helping Queen Miriajona reclaim her throne, Tanial and Liam are bound to explode myths and taboos by "exploring" one of the so-called Forbidden Islands, proscribed by legend and fell experience since history had been kept.

Tanial will soon discover that legend and fell experience seldom arise without a solid genesis, and those about The Forbidden Islands are certainly not the exception. Those Tanial calls 'dragons' are the root of the taboos she faces; they are not uniformly pleased by the authorization she's been awarded. They react accordingly. Tanial's sanction for travel allows her and her company to sail to the island, and then explore for up to half a year. Hazards arise before the first landfall.

Death and prophecy follow in due course, along with grief, rescues and surprises. Tanial hopes her exploration of the Islands will prepare her for preventing a war. That wasn't one of the things Maman had shared growing up.
