For busy travelers who are always on the hunt for the best places to visit during a short jaunt, these authoritative and witty guides provide the most up-to-date coverage of a city, including... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a handy little guide for a certain type of traveler, a traveler who has either a certain familiarity with the city already or who at least has access to some more detailed information and who has a fairly comfortable travel budget. This guide is published in a convenient size, one that is easy to carry when out exploring the city. There is a brief overview of the city and its history, enough information is provided to get the reader started in their research for their trip. The next section covers various sights of potential interest arranged by neighborhood and includes a very substantial list of sights. The remaining sections list hotels, restaurants, spas and shopping suggestions all aimed at the traveler with a healthy budget (or expense account). Budget travelers or those with small children will find little useful information here. The other potential niche for this guide is the local who needs some suggestions for out of town guests, which is what this reader will be using it for. So do not get this thinking it is the guide you will need, or that it will be appropriate for everyone but instead use it in conjunction with other guides and then set out to enjoy the Windy City.
Business Traveler - Perfect Guide
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
This guidebook is the perfect companion for the business traveler; it is not the perfect guide for a vacation or a family of four. If you travel for business, and Chicago is on the radar screen, read on, this guide is for you. If you are looking for in depth reviews of cheap to medium priced hotels and entertainment, look elsewhere. Forbes did something pretty amazing with this series; they hit the exact sweet spot for the business traveler. What do we want to know? There's a group of us going to dinner, what's a good spot? Somebody sprung Chicago on us at the last minute for a meeting or a convention, which hotel should I stay in? A bunch of us want to get a few drinks and maybe some entertainment, where to go? And maybe our spouse has come along, where are the shopping areas and spas (or I need a little TLC)? And finally, my manager wants me to travel on Sunday because the meeting starts Monday morning, is there anything to do in Chicago? This guidebook answers every one of those questions and gives you a couple of price points to consider. It gives you options for great things to do. The best part, it gets to the point, summarizes the information and delivers the key message. The book is small and thin enough that it will easily fit in a carry on or computer bag. All those other guidebooks are bigger and heavier. I have travelled for business almost twenty five years (about ten of those years were around seventy five percent of the time). I've travelled to a lot of cities around the world. I have lived near Chicago most of my life. From a seasoned business traveler that has organized many meetings, this guidebook would be my best friend for a city I don't know. It is the equivalent of a good concierge or travel agent. The organization is not bad - I'm not a huge fan of the cross referencing. The first handful of pages are all about getting me interested in the city, a little bit of history, key places to visit, festivals, and the feeling of the city. Where to eat is organized by neighborhood. Restaurants, there could be a long debate about what restaurants are included or excluded, not all my favorites are in here, and some that are listed, I'm not terribly fond of. Bottom line, you are guaranteed a very good meal at every one of these restaurants. Are they representative of true Chicago eating, no way. Is Gene and Georgetti's the best steakhouse in Chicago, certainly not. But, it is entertaining, always packed, with service that has a certain flavor to it. Did they miss some neighborhoods; yes they missed some significant ones, Greektown, and others. But here's the rub, those are interesting neighborhoods, but the food and restaurants are spotty and they don't necessarily fit the flow of this guidebook. Would a bunch of business people have a good time at the Parthenon, probably? But then again, they might not - it is a dark noisy restaurant with a pretty crazy floor show of flaming cheese and inexpensive food. There's a significant ris
Great Travel Guide

Forbes has an intensive method of quality inspections to test and measure the overall satisfaction and appeal. Their team of anonymous professionals have been to every place in the book doing their homework, observing, inspecting and making comparisons to make it easy to choose your destinations. Their star rating system appears to be a precise means of getting the best out of your trip. The book is compact and concise. It's written in enthusiastic words, sometimes sounding like advertisements with catchy, hip, trendy language, but it does present the facts simply. The photos give added appeal. Highly recommended.
Forbes Chicago 2010

Forbes City Guide Chicago 2010 contains excellent reviews, vivid color photographs, and insightful 'insider tips' on how to have an unforgettable experience in the Windy City. This is an up-to-date and thorough guide that I would recommend to anyone wishing to visit Chicago.
A lot of information in a compact size
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
The Forbes Chicago Guide is terrific on several levels. First, it provides a lot of useful information in a concise, easy to read format. Second, it's size is compact enough that it can easily fit in a pocket, purse, camera bag, etc. Third, it uses colorful photos to illustrate several key sites. If I had any complaint it would be that I would like a bit more detail on transportation to, from and around the city. I'd also like a list of places to avoid - either tourist traps or areas that may be troublesome (something no guide is really going to show). The bottom line - a good travel guide that's easy to use and easy to carry and provides a great deal of information.
