Take the Ride

I just happened to run into this book of poetry from William Joyce and read aloud many of his poems. I think him to be absolutely brilliant. He weaves the reader into paradox, surprise and poignancy with ease and grace. With some of his poems I chuckled; with some I wondered; with others, like "We Laughed Because We Knew, Pittsburgh, 1959" his words grabbed at my heart: "where fathers gave their blood in drops for a pension at the end of their bones" WOW! How well put.My grandfather was one of those men. For anyone from PGH or who wants to remember a time long since past this collection of poems is superb....especially the one entitled: The Cat, The Rat, The Wife and ME...a must read! PJ from the burgh.
