For My Child
Even with her best friend Lyla by her side, holding that tiny foster child in her arms for the first time was the most scared Maia had ever been; but also the happiest. It was the first time she felt like she had a purpose in life, a true reason to look forward to waking up every day.
With every child that left, her dream of starting a family sounded better. Find the love of her life, adopt a child, maybe get a dog, and continue fostering children. The dream life, her happy ever after.
Life doesn't seem to like her that much though, at least, that's how it feels. Maia feels like she is being punished for every child she helps, why else would it hurt so much when they leave her? Why else would she be slipping into a world of darkness, where sleep is the only thing worse than her days alone.
When Maia learns that one of her children has been returned to an abusive home, she does what any good mother would do... fights by whatever means necessary. There is no line she won't cross, no path through Hell itself she won't take to protect her child, even if it means signing her soul to the Devil; she will do it. Maybe this is why the world has punished her, because she has never truly fought for her children. That is, until now.
For My Child is a story about the love and protection all children deserve, a story that blurs moral boundaries. Because all lives have value, and in the eyes of a mother, none have a higher value than their child's.
