Seventeen-year-old Elle Kirkland learned to be a con artist from her scheming foster mother, so she's good at cheating, stealing, and disappearing. Some say she's the best cat burglar in Los Angeles. Lately, though, the thrill of the swindle isn't enough. She wants to make a difference, and she's tired of tricking poor folks.
What Elle really wants is to scam the big players of the world so she can help the people these players regularly abuse. Even more than that, she'd like to teach these fat cats a lesson so they'll admit their wrongs and gladly hand over their money-a virtuous con. Too bad her foster mother doesn't agree.
Elle finally gets to try out her new idea when she finds her birth parents who, along with many of their neighbors, are about to lose their homes to a greedy bank. To save them, she gathers a crew of grifters and forms her dream con team, The Adjusters. Of course, it's not easy. She has to pull a daring heist, then deal with nasty bankers, clever FBI agents, mysterious hackers, and even her fellow grifters.
Doing good isn't supposed to be this hard.
