Good Stuff

This book was dealing with the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer, though different from most reformed writers in some areas and his unwillingness to completely denounce positions that don't fit nicely into his tradition, giving them props from time to time because they love Jesus even though they may be weak on theology. I agree with some things he said but I've seen how these things cause people to experience something they think is God (but doesn't describe the God of scripture) when it could be an emotional sham they have worked themselves into. He uses a lot of his book doing what he is excellent at and that's using stories to illustrate his point, I think thats why its so easy to get wrapped up in his books. Each chapter is filled with how the Holy Spirit works in our lives in big & little ways, but unlike a book written by a Reformer or Puritan it is for a Christian layman who may not know that much about Christianity. I think the clearest point He makes and drives home again and again is that the Holy Spirit Job is to remind Us of the Father & Son, reminding us of all the things we should do, and convicting us when we sin, forget God, and do not love People. Of course to love others, even those who offend us badly, is only work we can do with the help of the Holy Spirit, he says so many funny things about people and great jokes or illustarations to make grand points. I find sayings like "Kissin don't matter, cookin do" hilarious but true. He says he is an Atheist until hes had his first cup of coffee. Pastoring and being in many churchs through-out his life time he said there was nothing wrong that he couldn't have fixed with a few funerals! Great stuff and if you were to uptight to laugh at those things he'd think you were neurotic. He concludes the book in the last three chapters showing us how to recognize the gifting of the holy spirit, defining what the gifts are so as to recognize them in ourselves, and others. Share the love he says, we are hear to bring glory to God by helping others, this was the most uncomfortable chapter because I fall short in this areas but he never makes you feel bad just more focused on Gods goodness and grace which is most essential in the life of the Christian. The last Chapter is a question and answer section which is good but not meaty, a bit surface level for an old timer like myself but still useful. I recommend this book, not terribly meaty but good for the soul.

Very good book on the Holy Spirit

Here's a brother who wrote his own experience concerning the Holy Spirit. Though I did not agree 100% with his perspective about the Holy Spirit, I enjoyed every bit of his opinions/thoughts. One of my disagreements is that the author states that your faith doesn't have to be tested or tried. I believe every believer's faith is tested, at least, every week. But as a Presbyterian, the author, and my brother-in-Christ, did a wonderful job. I strongly believe this book should be part of your Christian library. I greatly enjoyed Chapter 10...the author made me laugh so hard. May God continue to inspire more people about the importance of walking after the Holy Spirit.

Follow the Wind: Our Lord The Holy Spirit

Another Steve Brown masterpiece. Easy to read, wonderful insight and incredibly enlightening.

The Holy Spirit

I found this book to be extremely well written. I enjoyed every chapter and the lay out of the material made for easy reading. The revelations in the book helped me to understand the quiet work that the Holy Spirit does in my life. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand the Holy Spirit. You will find that there are a lot of questions answered and a lot of thoughts started. Do consider reading this! I found that I was disappointed when I read the last page, only because I was done with the book.Thank you Steve for a wonderful and insightful look in to the Holy Spirit and His work.

A great introduction to the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, at least to me, has always been hard to get a handle on, but this book has really helped me understand Him a little better - that the Holy Spirit is a person, distinct from the Father and the Son. Brown goes into the Scripture's portrayal of the Holy Spirit, His function in creation and in the lives of both believers and non-believers, and how He operates (through His gifts, prophecy, and so forth). But the part of this book I find most useful is that Brown is not trying to teach you any techniques or methods you can use to get the Holy Spirit to act in your life - He's already at work in your life, whether you know it or not. Rather, Brown wants to teach you who He is and how to recognize His activity in your life so you can participate in it more fully. Brown includes some hardcore theology and solid Scripture to back up his study of the Holy Spirit, but he uses normal, "non-religious" language to make this book accessible to all readers. For example, Brown points out that one reason the concept of the Holy Spirit is so hard to grasp is that His "job description" is to point to the Father and the Son, not Himself. The book is easy to read and get through, but it's also the kind of book you'll be likely to pick up time and time again as you go deeper into the subject.Well worth the money and time.
