addictive and mindblowing..

As much as i love Hindu stories , i never found any books that kept me glued to my seat till i met Jai's work. So much so that i missed my regular Metro stop to work! Wonderful piece of literature.

Magical

This story is so beautifully written that at times it took my breath away. I found myself not wanting to be away from it. It is impossible to not become emotionally attached to the story, and the descriptions are so clear and vivid that you feel like you are right there as a silent witness to it all. It provoked raw emtions from deep within and teaches one to do what's right even when society is telling you not to. The book was a spiritual journey for me. It led me down paths that I never would have escaped to had I not been given the opportunity to read this. In ways it has changed me. It's inspired an "unswerving courage" that I don't think I knew existed; and/or if I did, I didn't know how to truly reach it. What moved me the most was the reminder of the effect that we all have on the human spirit. Our actions and our words have an impact whether you choose to believe it or not. We all have the power within ourselves that Mira posesses; the power to be true to ourselves no matter what anyone else says. I also learned so much about the philosphies of Hinduism and its opened my soul to a whole new realm of possiblities and insight. This book will take your breath away. Mira has touched the lives of many, and now she has touched mine. Thank you J. A. Joshi for sharing the magic of this story. It's beautiful. It's raw. It's happy and it's sad, but most of all, it's breathtaking and inspirational.

Joshi and Mirabi

This was my introduction to the traditional story. I would not have chosen it had Ms. Joshi not been left all by herself at a book signing. She described the story and how she came to writing. Once I started reading, I was compelled to go on. The story is about a woman who is pushed by tradition but does not bend for tradition's sake. She loves Krishna beyond all and has no patience for those who expect her to love anyone else. The story is gut wrenching at times because the reader wants to save Mira from herself. What Mira knows is far above that of anyone in her midst. What a wise and loving character.

Enlightening!

Having heard the Bhajans of Mirabai and knowing a little about her life, the book "Follow the Cowherd Boy" by J.A. Joshi gave me a beautiful insight into Mira's life and educated me on the history, customs and traditions within Indian in the 16th century. If you've heard of Mirabai, then this is a book you must certainly read to know more about her. If you've not heard of her - then what are you waiting for? I eagarly look forward to reading the authors next novel!

An excellent read.

The story of Mirabai, recounted by J.A. Joshi offers an insightful view into the cultural customes of India and an in depth look at Hinduism. The novel is centered on Mirabai's love for Krishna and depicts her life vividly in both historical context and an inspirational manner. The reason I enjoyed this book so much is because I got to look deeper into an influencial figure of India. The next time somebody remembers somebody important from India; I can contribute the story of Mirabai and actually offer something into the discussion rather than just alluding to Gandhi. The tale contains similar themes from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet insofar, as the forbidden love for somebody and the love that can never be. I hope people will read this great story so they can see how Mirabai broke many social norms and the results of her forbidden love.
