Legends, Folklore, and Outer Space

(Part of the Isaac Asimov's New Library of the Universe Series)

The six volumes in this latest installment of Isaac Asimov's 21st Century Library of the Universe--Fact and Fantasy--transport young astronomers into a realm of speculation, hypothesis, and at times outright conjecture. Each title invites the reader to alight on a continuum of possibility ranging from the probable and plausible to fantasy, folklore, fiction, and even, in the case of UFOs, fraud.

An excellent reference for elementary school classes in multiculturalism and science

When young American students are in their classes, the fact that other cultures had other names for natural sights is often lost. That is especially true for the patterns of stars in the night sky called constellations. This is unfortunate as this would be an excellent opportunity to introduce the folklore of other cultures. It is also interesting to note that the different cultures created different patterns when they connected the dots of stars in formation. Therefore, this book would be an excellent reference for elementary school classes in multiculturalism as well as science. As always, Isaac Asimov does a superb job in explaining the science at a level that the elementary school student can understand.
