Beverley Rollwagen (renowned author of She Just Wants) reminisces in both poetry and prose about her years as an airline stewardess, sharing stories of the laughter, loves and losses of a bygone era. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Beverly Rollwagen's poems and prose are a swift river of words. They swirl and eddy, they jump and dive, they drift and float, they knock you off your feet. Her telling of moments and memories swallowed me so quickly and completely, I felt like she was writing about me, to me, with me. Her words come directly from her heart and I don't mean that in a sappy way. Her sentiments are direct and bare, unembellished, and all the more powerful for their nakedness. I admire her technical skill: to pack such power into the small space of a poem takes skill and hard work. But even more, I admire that I can't see that struggle. She is so seamless, she makes it look easy. Some of Ms. Rollwagen's words make me feel comforted and understood, and some punch me in the gut. Some days I need all of that. "Flying" is a book I will pick up again and again because reading it is like reading letters from a dear friend. I recommend this book of prose and poetry for all the intimate moments it presents, unadorned.
