Animal Friendship

Great story of a friendship between a German Shepherd and a duck named Fluffy . Fluffy strolls into Barons life when he is a young duckling and their friendship grows even to the point of Fluffy sleeps with Baron and then Fluffy makes friends with other ducks and goes on to have little ones whom of course makes friends with Baron the dog . Great story for Easter . My 3 yr old Grandson loves this book and so do I .

Great way to introduce the biography genre to toddlers

This book is a biographical account of the friendship between the author's pet dog and pet duck. What first drew me to this book was the illustrations. The dog's face is so expressive, and his poses are very natural. The story follows Baron, a German Shepherd, and Fluffy, a Pekin duck, through a year of their friendship. That year includes Fluffy growing from a duckling to a full-grown duck, who then gives birth to more ducklings. The illustrations, also by the author, are soft and gentle, and you can clearly see the friendship between the two animals, even without the text. The text itself is simple and comfortable, fraught with feelings of home and friendship. It's a quiet book that is perfect for bedtime reading. The author includes a note at the end of the book that gives some interesting facts about ducks, and includes pictures of the author as a child with the original Fluffy and Baron.

A really sweet tale of friendship

My son and I love this book! It really captures a special and rare friendship between a dog and a duck. The pictures are wonderful, especially the dog's expressions. I got teary the first time I read it!

An odd combination of family pets that were best friends.

A lovely story. It was a joy to read and to look at the pictures. The text was great, as were the illustrations. There were 26 scenes and many of them were less than a page, but some were 2 pages wide. The story was about a dog and a domesticated duck that got along well together. For a bit of the story the duck had wild duck "guests" and the dog was left alone during that time. But by the end of the story the guests have left and the dog has more than one duck as a friend. My favorite part of the book was the Author's Note at the end where she explains a little about the history behind the story and its star characters. I'm sure this book will be very popular with young children and they will enjoy having it read to them time and time again. 5 stars!
