Meet the Hokies, the survivors of a global catastrophic event in the Blue Ridge Mountain town of Floyd, Virginia. It was a normal August day until 2:42 in the afternoon. The grid went down, engines stopped, and batteries died, as did most mammals, including dogs, cows and people. The world went silent. There were survivors. Left alone after failing to revive her brother, 26-year-old Sarah Margolis clings to the hope that her mother is still alive. She moves into a house she knew from her babysitting days and encounters the first human being she has seen since everything stopped. More pilgrims arrive, along with visitors with darker agendas. After enduring a year in Blacksburg, Gabe makes his way home to the Floyd farm where he grew up and becomes brother and protector to 16-year-old Desi. When Floyd becomes too dangerous, the Hokies head for the hills. There they share their talents, hopes and fears as they learn to make music, shoot turkeys, hotwire solar panels, fight fire, and bury their dead.
