This collection includes cases addressing the institution of slavery from the official court reporters for the Florida Supreme Court, including cases directly addressing slavery law and law applicable to free persons of color, along with cases in which the enslaved and free persons of color are the objects of litigation, as in estates and trusts, warranties and sales, wills, deeds, mortgages, collections, damages, taxation and the like. These cases are verbatim transcriptions from the official Florida court reporters, and have been abridged by the editor by omission of generic discussion of legal issues not directly pertaining to the institution of slavery.
