Natural disasters, with far reaching and sever physical, ecological and socio-economic consequences, can occur suddenly like earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, cyclones and landslides. These are becoming increasingly significant both in terms of numbers of events and magnitude of impacts. Evidence suggests that the frequency of natural disasters has increased in recent decades.
