I throughly enjoyed this book. You have hit the ball right out of the park. I think the students will enjoy learning about history in a manner that excites them. The CD that you provide is just icing on the cake. i am sure that as students interests' are peeked and they play the CD over and over, they will presently surprised to find out they are learning history as well. This book is a great supplementary text for any middle school or high school history class. Thank you for your contribution to education.
great book for fifth grade

I teach fifth grade - includes the Thirteen Colonies and the American Revolution. The songs in this book have such a catchy tune - the kids are singing them all day. The information in the book makes for some interesting and sometimes difficult discussions - but it takes the kids to a level of understanding that isn't usual with the standard curriculum. The information in the book supplements our curriculum and we have conversations that delve into both the Native and the Explorers views. I recommend this book.
Great Idea!

This is such a great product that will be so useful in the classroom. It is always great to find new ideas that will engage students in learning and this will do just that. Kids will think that it is fun because it sounds like something they would listen to on the radio and it's perfect for use in schools because the kids will learn something about history from a Hip-Hop song.
so much fun

I found this while searching for clean, authentic hip-hop for my first grader. He loves the beat but radio lyrics are too risque and "kid" hip hop is a little too sugary. This sounds like the radio but has totally clean lyrics, that are educational to boot. Not that I'd consider it an alternative to school - but he does enjoy following along in the book and reading the historical support material, so who can complain. I get a kick out of some of the lines myself, so we both enjoy listening. I also like that it gives a deeper perspective on much of American history. Overall a great product.
Great Tool

What a great tool. While I don't expect the songs to ever make it to the American Top 40 they are adequate and have a good beat. They have actually made it fun (or dare I say easy) to learn history!
