The dark and gritty cyberpunk side of Warhammer 40k

Fleshworks was my introduction to the world of Necromunda, and it certainly left me wanting for more. As opposed to the climactic galaxy spanning battles of 40k, Necromunda lives and breathes in hive cities, where politics, intrigue, and gang warfare are the primary focus. The novel created a believable bond to the characters and their struggles, describing the day to day in such a hive environment perfectly. I was looking for a bit more on the cybernetics and bionics angle of the story, but in hashing out the attitude of gang relations in the world of Necromunda, Fleshworks achieves beyond par.

Mission Impossible - Necromunda Style

I just finished reading Lucien Soulban's fun Necromunda novel. It is a much denser novel than it appears at first glance. Every one of the characters propels the hack/slash moments in the story. The battle scenes are well described and the story itself is very interesting. If there was one part of the book that was difficult to grasp, it was the heavy descriptions of the various levels of Hive Primus, as I am not a player of the Necromunda game and this is my first foray into that universe. Of course, this IS the fifth book of a (seven, so far) series, I just discovered, but I think Fleshworks was written in such a way that made it easy to grasp upon the various elements of the world without confusion and I enjoyed reading about the various factions, which I think were described very successsfully (Escher v. Orlock, etc.). I particularly enjoyed reading about the character's relationships and interactions (Uriah and Voice, specifically and oddy enough, although I liked all of Uriah's interations). It had a James Bond/Mission Impossible feel to it which I very much enjoyed. Now, the BIG QUESTION: ARE YOU WRITING THE SEQUEL YET??? That is another book I will purchase and read IMMEDIATELY!!! Thank you for an awesome novel, Mr. Soulban. I hope you return to this universe soon! I want to know more about the trials and tribulations of Uriah "Jester" Storm and all the characters you created for your part of this world!
