Flagged For Review: When the algorithm surfaces footage that cannot exist, someone has to watch it
Mara Voss has trained herself to feel nothing. In a grey pod at Helix Content Solutions, beneath the cold blue crawl of a loading bar, she removes the internet's most disturbing uploads by policy, by checklist, by muscle memory. Keep. Remove. Escalate. Move to the next. It's the only way to survive the work.
Then a seven-second clip enters her queue with no uploader, no origin, and her home address buried in the metadata. The footage shows her apartment, filmed from inside, at eye level - from a place where no camera has ever stood. Her supervisor calls it a glitch and closes the ticket in fourteen seconds.
It is not a glitch.
As Mara digs, the truth assembles itself one impossible file at a time:
The timestamps are always in the future - and they keep coming true.Thirty-seven prior recordings of her home are already archived. All deleted. None gone.Somewhere below the review floor, Helix is building something out of the parts of her she gave away without noticing. To stop it, Mara will have to go deeper into the system than any moderator is meant to - into a place where the queue counter stopped counting tasks a long time ago, and started counting something else.
Flagged For Review is a slow-burn techno-horror novella about surveillance, consent, and the quiet violence of the fine print - perfect for readers who love unsettling near-future fiction, corporate dystopias, and psychological tech-horror that lingers long after the last page.
