In the autumn of 1990, a performing group was formed in Boulder Colorado by local voice teacher Tonny-Broe Parkin. We initially called ourselves "The Songmakers' Almanac", and later changed that to "The Boulder Songmakers". For the next twelve or more years we presented four or five concerts each year. We were five to six singers, two pianists and one flutist. We had themes for each of those concerts and drew on the ample supply of music available from the last 5 centuries. We did a variety of combinations of voices with piano and often flute. For those concerts, I would often compose a new piece which would be in keeping with our chosen theme. The first three songs in this collection are some of those. The last two were written to be performed in First Presbyterian Church in Boulder. Flute parts are included in this collection.
