After the closing up of "Who Is Sylvia" I wasn't given much choice on who to write about next. I had laid it out in some detail that Phil and Sylvia Esterh zy had five rather remarkable children. Unlike Phil and Sylvia, their lives were never seriously threatened; however, their experiences while they grew into adults were interesting and challenging. Joe Esterh zy is thrust into adulthood much earlier than many; however, he and Amy (yes, that Amy) handle it quite well. Persephone (Persi) and Demeter (Demi) are the image of their mother without the fears and hang-ups their mother had. In fact, they are just the opposite. Helen is the domestic diva. Not only that, she is a very talented pianist; so good that her aunt and grandmother want to see her try for the top. Helen also has a secret. Then there's the youngest of the five: Patrick is very much like his great uncle Patrick. He is wrapped up in academia. He also has a problem realizing that a wonderful young woman he met at the University of California at San Louis Obispo is in love with him, and he with her. He inadvertently hurts her deeply and doesn't realize it until it might be too lateKaren Markley decides to give it one more try and shows up at the Esterh zy home in Butler Valley, overlooking the Mad River, to ask Pat to go on a pack trip with her. Only he's not there. Sylvia makes sure they will at least get together, but before Karen leaves to join Pat in the Sierra Nevada she learns about Pat's rather remarkable family and their loves. There really are five love stories, and they are all wrapped around the love that Phil and Sylvia have for each other and their family. Then, there's this other secret. Also read "The Heart of the Beholder", The Narragansett Fork", "Musetta's Waltz", "Who is Sylvia", The Redhead and the PM", "St. George and the Dragon", "Soaring With Eagles" and "Love's Shame, Love's Salvation."
