A reprint of a title first published in 1979, with a series of panoramic pictures by Stephen Cartwright illustrating a basic vocabulary of words in German. Also available in paperback priced at 4.50, ISBN 0 7460 0388 9.
This is like a mini version of The Oxford-Duden Pictorial German-English Dictionary.
Only this one shows the big picture. It has an index of words and more words that are not pictured. It even comes with an Easy Pronunciation Guide. The pictures are cute and colorful.
Geared toward children, yet it makes a perfect learning companion for anyone tackling German for the first time. Showing verbs and adjectives, so you do not use the wrong article with words like “traffic”, which, luckily, is not in the book.
An excellent guide for adults AND children

I've been learning German for a few years now, and this is a great book. I'd like to emphasize it's excellent for adults and children, particularly. Don't let the colorful drawings fool you into thinking its just for kids. A very handy book!
Fantastic vocab for any age!

I absolutely love this book! The pictures are great as well as the pronunciation guide in the back. Definitely a must-have for anyone trying to teach multiple languages. My 2.5 year old absolutely loves this book. The other fabulous plus to buying this book is the ONLINE pronunciation guide! If you go to their website, you can listen to / download little sound clips with perfect pronunciation for each page of the book (it's organized by page number on the website). I do sight-reading with my little ones (rather than phonics) and I made a powerpoint presentation with many of the words from this book and attached the sound files that I downloaded from their website. It worked perfectly!
Be a kid again! This is a fun way to learn vocabulary.

This is a completely graphical learning guide - just like when we learned to read and speak as kids. Each page has a different scenario: pages of rooms from and around the house, school, city streets, stores, restaurants, etc. At the center of the page is a very busy picture showing all kinds of activities which relate to the page topic. Then, the actions and items shown in the picture are shown separately around the border of the picture with their names. As a game, you can study the item's names, then try to identify them in the picture. Surprisingly, it is very effective. As an adult toying with a second language, this is a fun book to pick up off the coffee table and play with for a couple minutes each day. Good luck to you and have fun!
