Not Just for Montana Kids

First Dog: Unleashed in the Montana Capitol is a great gem of a book overflowing with lots of educational material and you don't have to be from Montana to enjoy and learn from it. Yes,...it's great for a child living in Montana but it should not be dismissed because your kid lives in another state. The book has a nostalgic and folksy feel to it in both text (Jessica Solberg) and illustrations (Robert Rath) but goes much further than your run of the mill dog story. It contains excellent and easy to understand information about the 3 branches of state government. At the end of the book there is great glossary of 21 words that will even help grown-ups review or learn for the first time. Some of the words defined include: bill, capital, democracy, executive branch, governor, senator, and veto.
