A Solid Choice!

This book is sturdy, durable, visually interesting, well-designed and a great place to launch an infant's interest in books, photos and naming the real-life images he/she sees every day. Bright Baby Colors is part of a wonderful series of board books which includes Bright Baby Animals and Bright Baby First Words (both of which I also highly recommend). Rather than confusing an infant's eyes with an array of images all at once, the nice thing about these books is that they are laid out very simplistically with one photograph and word per page on a solid-colored background. No clutter and no distractions. For the infant who is just starting to point at everything in the world and seek "identification tags", this entire series is the perfect first set of books. Ever since he was an infant, my son has kept coming back to these books. I think it is because they can be easily adapted to teach a variety of concepts and they evolve to meet his constantly changing points of interest. I agree with the previous reviewer that a few of the color choices are not as well depicted as they could be. (E.g., gray is depicted as so dark that it is almost black, and pink is shown in such a dark shade that it is almost red.) However, this is a minor point, and I still give this book five stars for the simple visual images it provides, the focused learning it encourages, and the variety of ways in which it can be used to teach not just colors, but also other words and concepts. With its great photography of everyday, real-life, 'round-the-house images set against simple, solid backgrounds, this book is definitely a solid choice with which to start your child's home library!

a favorite

My 10-month-old absolutely loves this book. Sometimes I walk into the room and she's picked it up and is laughing at the pictures. The images are clear, the colors and bright and beautiful. There is no story, just the printed word of the image and the color, so it has a flash-card-like quality, which will be useful when she's a little older and learning to speak and identify things and colors. The pictures are also fun...she cracks up every time we get to the page with the kitten on one side and the little boy on the other (black kitten, black coat on the boy). I highly recommend this one.

I love these books

I have three of thes bright baby books. My son is now 2, but has been looking at them since he was about 15months. He can say all of them. We read him stories and that is fine, but he really likes to point things out and tell you what they are. He gets a satisfaction of knowing that he knows something. Other books are fine for reading but he seems to gravitate towards these. I like how there is one thing on each page and the colors are bright and nice to look at. You won't be sorry with these books. :)

wonderful book

We have this book for our baby and now give it as a gift to anyone we know having a baby. It is a great book to introduce colors and everyday things such as a spoon, dress, cat, etc. Since it's a board book, we let our daughter play with it so she can practice turning pages and for the price, we don't mind her chewing on it. This book is one of 4 in a series and we highly recommend them for any parent and baby.

Love the 2005 edition!

This is an interesting and colorful book with excellent photos. Each two page spread has five items of the color and a cut out circle showing part of an item with a question. For example, the red page shows cherries, dress, car, fish, drum, and the question by the cutout is "This helps to put out fires. What is it?" Lifting the flap shows a fire truck. The photos are excellent and the book design adds interest. The 2005 edition is an improved redesign of an earlier edition. Karen Woodworth Roman
