Book Overview

Five hundred years ago a huge force defeated an evil, supernaturally powerful tyrant who terrorized and ravaged those who cowered under his lash. Now, terrible news suggests that someone or something is preying upon the northern lands, threatening to once again darken the lives of those who still remember the horrific past.

A small, motley band led by a brave warrior and a visionary priest has finally reached the land to the north. They have seen wonders and endured terrifying experiences, barely escaping from a dizzying series of perils, magical and otherwise. But the direst hazards lie before them as they approach the dread power that is terrorizing and enslaving all who oppose it. Finally, the Wanderer, fated to face the ultimate test, will confront his destiny. A world and its trembling masses await the outcome.

Fresh and powerfully told, this epic tale will satisfy fantasy readers as few other legends have done.

Spectacular!

Sequels to outstanding first novels are always difficult. Just ask Stephen King, Katherine Kurtz, and Dean Koontz. David Blisborough, English teacher, researcher, and walker, has given readers a satisfying 'conclusion' to "Wanderers Tale". "Fire in the North" is jam packed with characterization that brings Cuna, Bolldhe,Elfswith, and battlefields of brave warriors, dead and alive. The most climactic battles are those that build slowly, and that is how the annals of Lindormyn is. Traveling through treacherous territory, expecting ambush, then having the luxury of choosing when to engage the forces of Drauglir. 500 years is a long time to wait for revenge...and death is the only endpoint acceptable other than success at any cost. The battles are bloody, and costly. The supernatural, powerful. Only the choice of Bolldhe to There are a few passages like "What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger." that give this book a familiar feel. The spiritual battle that concludes in the last chapter make this book truly a fantastic read. The great truth in life we face is that what ever physical battle we face is the spiritual battle that happens alongside. Bilsborough captures that exceptionally well. One great feature of this book is the glossary at the end to help readers sort out the variety of races, and other worldly weapons, gods, demi gods, and creatures. Clearly, this is a series and author to watch. Is this the end of Bollldhe and his fight against Darkness and destiny? Tim Lasiuta Only book three of the Annals of Lindormyn can say.

entertaining military fantasy

In the tunnels under the mountains of Eotunlandt, Nibulus leads the Questor survivors of the battles as they struggle to reach the surface where they expect their enemies the Thieves will attack them en masse. Instead when they finally reach the outside, no one eerily awaits to ambush them. Bolldhe heads towards the next fight with the resurrected evil lord Drauglir and his horde. He expects the engagement to occur somewhere near Vaagenfjord Maw, but has little hope to win except for the strange sword he now possesses. Gapp and Methuselech reach Wrythe where the malevolent necromancer Scathur has quietly ruled for centuries while regaining strength lost five hundred years ago on Lyndormyn, when Peladanes defeated the evil rawgr Drauglir and his supernatural minions; he quickly knows who Methuselech's soul is and imprisons both of them, but they escape with his horde in pursuit. Soon everyone heads for Melhus Island and its underworld where the armies of the dead await to add to their ranks. This is a direct sequel to The Wanderer's Tale that takes time to get started as the various key players and their allies are established for new readers. Once the action accelerates there is no slowing down as this military fantasy goes into hyperspeed with confrontations seemingly everywhere. With all the various armies at war and new leaders and heroes emerging, A FIRE IN THE NORTH still pares down to the destined Wanderer. He remains the only one who can save an apathetic prosperous world from the malevolent Drauglir and the wicked necromancer Scathur as The Annals of Lindormyn move forward. Harriet Klausner
