Life is a journey - and on this journey, every person is tested: sometimes through blessings, sometimes through hardship. How should we stand in the face of difficulty? Which door should we knock on, and which steps should we take? These are the questions this book sets out to answer.
"Finding Your Way Through Hardship: Meaning-Making and Psychological Resilience" places Qur'anic narratives at its center, addressing trial and difficulty from both a scholarly and an applied perspective. It examines the hardships of our inner world alongside the pressures of the outer world - drawing on Qur'anic verses, supplications, classical commentary, and modern psychology to offer solutions you can apply to your life.
The book unfolds through three workshops. Its introduction explores trial, patience, and trust in God through the example of the Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon Him], drawing on Holy Qur'an, al-Muzzammil and al-Muddaththir.
The workshops that follow turn theory into practice, built around the supplications of Adam peace be upon Him], Yunus (Jonah) peace be upon Him], Ayub (Job) peace be upon Him], Musa (Moses) peace be upon Him], and the Companions of the Cave (Ashab al-Kahf), as well as a story from a hadith of the Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon Him].
Each workshop moves through ten stages - from concept-building and verse analysis to integration with modern psychology, guided exercises, journaling, and life application.
This is not a book to be read once and set aside. It is a guide to be worked through, annotated, and returned to - alone, with family, or with friends. A roadmap for those who see hardship not as a dead end, but as a door toward awareness, maturity, and nearness to God.
On every page, it asks: What is this trial communicating to me? What will I gain from it? And how will I carry it into my life?
