Jack opens his eyes as the echo of the pistol, sounds in his mind. His eyes dart around the room, then settle on the blood-soaked bandages on his leg, now only a nub. Closing his eyes, he thinks back to leaving home and his friends, Kim and Terry. He slept with Kim their last night together and has since turned his back on Terry. As an amputee, he could not face his friends.
Years later, he uses his handicap to pick up girls in bars for his many one-night stands. He does this until one day he falls in love with a green-eyed creole nurse. She loves him and shows him that he is still a man.
