I have always been familiar with Ralph Talbot. Ralph Talbot is the name of an elementary school in my town. My mother attended that school as a child and was always interested in his story. Last April, my mother traveled to the Marine Corps Archive in Virginia. There she found Ralph Talbot's collection of poems, personal letters and papers. When she returned, I flipped through all her findings. I found it incredible that someone so talented was so forgotten. In his time, Ralph Talbot was well known by everyone in his hometown, Weymouth, for his accomplishments in school, for his legacy as a World War One pilot and his heroics in receiving the Medal of Honor. Although, somehow his story is lost to my generation. Frequently mentioned throughout Ralph Talbot's papers it mentions his intention to publish his poems. I realized that the publication of his poems was the perfect Capstone opportunity. I could let his voice be heard so that people, especially students, could learn about our local hero. As a result, I could fulfill his dream.
