I was born in London, in 1943, during the Second World War. As I grew up I was aware that there was a secret surrounding my birth that I was never told. At the time of my birth my mother Rose was married to John Musker, her second husband. My early recollections of him were of a kind and caring man. When I was six years of age my parents divorced and I did not see John again for over thirty years. When I eventually did trace John it was through a radio request programme. But it was a troubled reunion. Despite this we continued to meet regularly over the next few years. Towards the end of his life John confessed to me that I was not his 'real' daughter and that my mother had had an affair with a soldier whilst he was posted away during the war. The name of my real father was Bertie 'Chalky' White. This is the amazing true story of my search for my 'real' father and how, with only the flimsiest of evidence, I retraced Bertie's tragic footsteps and found, at last, my way home.
