When I discovered that I had prostate cancer, I decided to describe the journey wherever it may lead. It led to the past, the present and the future in random order. I continued to write my way through the pandemic. In those 30 months I composed another 103 prize winning essays published in London of all places and shared around the world by 350,000 readers. During the entirety of its composition, we addressed and continue to address the contagion of literal disease with the added figurative disease of disinformation. As we confronted and confront that two headed snake, our individual mortality has become more in focus as well as the survivability of our nation. As it coalesced, I realized that Fill Fuller could be divided into three parts with the first and third parts acting as fun house mirror reflections of each other with the middle part dealing with Covid and serving as the mirror itself. Once again it can be read in any order. The cover artwork and book design were done by Mary Ryan. It depicts the ancient paradox of two snakes devouring each other. The snakes are the same size, they have seized upon each other at the same time and are digesting at the same speed. What is the ultimate outcome? Are two heads better than none? The art also represents the current situation in the USA as we continue to devour each other in the name of a democracy in which the future is as puzzling as the riddle of the two snakes.
