I like the way in which this book is put together.

We start off with a short biography of each of those famous admirals who played such vital roles in either the British Grand Fleet or the German High Seas Fleet of WW1. For those readers who thought such names as; Jellicoe, Beatty, Tirpitz, Scheer, and Hipper were simply the names of famous ships - this book brings to life the accomplished men who gave their names to those ships. We then move through the various stages of WW1 and the battles that were fought - culminating, of course, in the destruction of the High Sea Fleet at Scapa Flow. Moving swiftly to WW2, we now see a very similar treatment - except that "two" main protagonists swiftly become four as almost the entire world gets caught in various aspects of various conflicts. What I like about this book is the way in which new advances in technology are illustrated and explained. For example, I learned a great deal about the magnetic mine and depth charges here. Altogether, this book tells the complete story of a world at war with itself from the sea battles perspective. The ships, the devices and the players are all here and everything is expertly supported with great photographs, maps, charts and illustrations. Another great book for those who may be new to the overall subject and want a global view of what it was all about. NM
