Are all mental illnesses a chemical imbalance or could it be something not even remotely close? I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression in 2010. Years later, I created a blog called "Fighting For Sanity" on my pathway through life written in the form of poetry. This book includes the poems I wrote daily about my experience with mental illness. Hopefully, it will shine a light on the what it's like to be hospitalized, medicated, under a doctor's care as well as my life in between. You will get a glimpse of how it impacted my life. I questioned what the doctors had said and realized that I was not what they had identified me as. I hope that this book will show that not all things are quite what you think. I had to find answers for myself after my encounters with the "voices" weren't all just in my head. I kept going from being upbeat to down. And it wasn't because of the my "symptoms." It was something more, not truly embraced in American culture. Where I am, you hear voices, seek a doctor, and get medicated. The supposed solution is pills, but it's not a cure and they don't always work. At least, not in my case. And many won't admit that they hear, feel and see what's not there. I did, and you will see, and you will know and you will feel as you read.
