A teenage boy's father is missing while on a foreign assignment. As the boy tries to locate his father using the Internet and his father's massive computer workstation, he discovers a self-evolving artificial intelligence. As the artificial intelligence grows to maturity, it assumes an identity as the twin brother of the teenager and jointly, they continue the search for the father. The United Security Agency becomes involved because they believe the father has defected to a foreign power and they put the boy under constant observation. At the same time, the artificial intelligence discovers information that the boy may also be at risk from unknown parties, so the boy and his artificial twin develop a complex plan to evade all threats in order to locate and rescue the father.
