Fifty Readings in Philosophy

This topically-organized anthology is intended for introductory philosophy students and could supplement primary sources or survey texts. The 50 classical and contemporary selections were chosen for their historical importance, diversity and accessibility. In addition to traditional philosophers, the collection represents non-Western thinkers, minority authors and feminists. Each reading has been checked against its original source for accuracy and is presented with biographies, summaries and notes. Most of these selections will also be available on PRIMIS, McGraw-Hill's electronic database.

Very Diverse and Complete Resource

I was impressed by the diversity and thorough amount of sources this book presented. Abel is also a very good editor. He provides very useful summaries and biographies of the writers. I was also very impressed by how he divided the selections into viewpoint-appropriate categories. This is a very valuable resource for philosophical topics.

The Whole Ball of Wax, Metaphysically Speaking

A book no respectable domicile should be without! An extremely comprehensive collection of readings, spanning the gamut of human thought. Philosophers from Descartes to Locke to Baier write on everything from The Self, ethics and the existance of god, to and anarchy and rights and goods. Would make an excellent for any intro. to Philosophy class.
